NGOs do not charge to home animals

Animal Rights Coalition states NGOs forming part of the Coalition do not charge when providing homes for cats and dogs because they are not objects to be sold.

Responding to a statement made by a participant on the Super One Realta programme shown on 12 October 2011, the Animal Rights Coalition said that six Non Governmental Organisations forming part of the Coalition do not charge when finding homes for cats and dogs.

The six NGOs named were Abandoned Animals Association, Animal Rights Group, Island Sanctuary, National Cat Society, St Francis Foundation and the Stray Animals Support Group.

The Coalition said that these NGOs “strongly believe that dogs and cats are not objects to be sold” but any donations were accepted to use for the care of stray and abandoned animals taken in by the NGOs.

“It is also the policy of these NGO's to neuter their cats, and microchip and neuter their dogs before homing them, or if this is not feasible, to follow up the individual pet and check it is neutered at a later date,” the Coalition said.
