[Watch] Stipends today are ‘untouchable’, says Evarist Bartolo

Former Labour education minister Evarist Bartolo says a Labour in government would aim at reducing the numbers of early school leavers.

Opposition spokesman for education Evarist Bartolo said that because of the economic situation today, ‘’no one dares touch the stipends.’’

Bartolo, who had reduced the stipends when he was the Minister for Education, said that reducing stipends today would only “hurt” families.

Speaking with Saviour Balzan on Reporter, the Labour MP said that a Labour in government would work to reduce the numbers of early school leavers: “It is not acceptable that out of the 5,000 students who finish secondary school, there are 1,800 who do not continue with their studies.”
