VAT, Social Security departments refuse to waiver tax penalties on 'Mambra' director
Government departments have reportedly refused to waiver thousands of euros in penalties over unpaid taxes and national insurance contributions that are being imposed on a daily basis against former Mambra electronics store owner Joseph Pavia.
Pavia, who shut his store on August 5, 2009 had fled the country within minutes of shutting down his store and sending home all employees.
Apart from business creditors, and unpaid salaries, Joseph Pavia has been slapped with a €600,000 bill by the VAT department, and further thousands from the Department of Social Security.
Contacted, lawyer Veronique Dalli told MaltaToday that despite numerous bona fide attempts to convince the governmental departments to waiver the penalties or impose a temporary moratorium.
“We have been negotiating with all governmental departments, namely the VAT department and the department of social security to suspend the penalties and to allow us to evaluate and sell property our client has in Mellieha and in Zurrieq, but they simply refused,” Veronique Dalli said.
The lawyer refused to divulge where her client is, adding that Pavia suffered from health problems while away. His elder son is reportedly with him.
