Portuguese, Nigerian charged after cocaine, heroin find at airport

19 year-old Portuguese student Paco Carmona Alves was arrested by the police after customs and police officers discovered almost a kilogramme of cocaine and heroin hidden in a false shoe sole, upon his arrival to Malta on a flight from Dusseldorf, Germany.

Further ivestigations have reportedly led the police to raid an apartment in Bugibba during the night, and arrest a 35 year-old Nigerian man, identified as John Michael in connection with the find. The Nigerian was meant to receive the drug.

While a magisterial inquiry is underway, both men were charged in court with conspiracy to import and traffic in drugs and remanded in custody.
