Education Minister Evarist Bartolo, in a meeting with the PBS Board of Directors, underlined the challenge to PBS - through its radio, television and website - in introducucing innovative and educational systems in the deployment and proper use of the English language.

He expressed his concerns regarding the deterioration in the standards of English in Malta and underlined the need to update teaching methods. He also invited PBS to plan 'attractive' programmes that facilitate spoken and written English.

Bartolo referred to the model of RAI Scuola in Italy that could be emulated in Malta for the dissemination of education. These programmes are produced with the cooperation of the British Council in Italy.

The two sides agreed on the concept of organizing a game show in English for students.

PBS Chairman Tonio Portughese welcomed the involvement of the British Council and discussions have started for a more effective cooperation.

The CEO of PBS Anton Attard recommended that school children become more involved in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest being held in Malta next November.

Well, the media should start by putting their house in order first -the atrocious pronunciation ,'manglish' ,and the incessant repetition of useless and meaningless words are rampant both on TV and on the Radio on most local stations.

That will be a very good idea. Another thing suggest is that there should be some programs on all our stations, such as The News, in English. However these should be in the hands of good English-reading persons.
