During yesterday's Labour Party general conference, deputy leader for party affairs Toni Abela praised the work which government had done during the first eleven months of its legislature.

In the conference it was announced that the PL had generated  a revenue of €2.8 million in the financial year till July 2013, with expenditure standing at €2.7 million.

Depreciation caused the party to close the year with a deficit of €21,800 - down by €100,000 compared to the previous year, leaving the party with a consolidated fund of €3.2 million.

Addressing the conference, Abela said that, whilst the previous administration was constantly raising water and electricity tariffs, and used to refer to poverty as a 'perception', this government was tackling these issues.

Abela also said that this government was addressing the problem of public transport, and not ignoring it like the previous government did.

Abela said that the PN's historic defeat in last year's general election "miraculously" made the PN realize the importance of transparency and forming a closer relationship with the people.

"The PN only criticize us because what we are doing, are things which they wanted to do themselves. And so, once they cannot, they try to stop us," he said.

Referring to the PN's new statute amendments, which Abela described as a 'cut and paste' version of the amendments made by Labour, the deputy leader said that it was not the statute which needed changing, but the persons implementing them.

"Statutes do not make good leaders. It is good leaders that make good statutes," he said, adding that the PN seemed not to have figured that out.

Abela also hit out at the PN's stance on the recent citizenship scheme debate, claiming that they used 'political childishness' in their tactics.

"The way they are reasoning it is that you either win it or you destroy it," he said.

Abela also paid tribute to former minister Wistin Abela who recently passed away.

Mr Abela, the sIMON-pn, has a lot to answer for before this copy and paste party can start to attain credibility....ex..Why are they still defending the oil scandal tainted people?......Why have they not yet done a Krushev, or like the Republicans after Watergate, where they not only distanced themselves from the scandal culprits but effectively investigated them so that the party will not be tarnished with corruption
