MEPs commemorate World Cancer Day
This week, the European Parliament will be hoping to establish a ‘European Cancer Patients’ Bill of Rights’.
On the ocassion of the World Cancer Day, Maltese MEP Claudette Abela Baldacchino has joined fellow MEPs in speaking out against the illness.
This week in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, a plenary session is being held with the aim of establishing a 'European Cancer Patients' Bill of Rights'.
"The interest shown by MEPs in this field shows that the European Parliament can prove instrumental in setting clear standards in the research for such diseases," Abela Baldacchino said.
In 2012 alone, 2.6 million Europeans were found to have some form of cancer with the disease causing an esitimated 1.3 million deaths.
It has been estimated also, that in the future, one in every three men and one in every four women will be affected by cancer before they reach the age of 75.
