Heavy rain expected over the weekend
Heavy rain showers and a possibility of flooding expected over the next 48 hours.
A slow-moving low pressure system passing over the Maltese Islands in the next 48 hours is expected to produce heavy rain showers that may be thundery, with a possibility of hail at times.
Flooding is possible in the usual low low-lying areas.
The Malta Weather Site has reported that the main threats are expected to occur from 9am on Saturday until the early hours of Sunday evening.
Today's weather is expected to remain hazy due to a large amount of Sahara Sand present in the atmosphere. It is expected to begin clearing up gradually from tomorrow morning.
Winds are expected to be light to moderate but may become gusty during any rain showers. The sea is also expected to be rough with wave heights up to 5 to 6 metres at times.

Bring it on. We need the rain so badly. Up until yesterday Malta did not even manage to reach the 400mm mark since 1st September. I hope it rains heavily all weekend for the island to be drenched and cleaned too. Dear rain, the countryside needs you, the chadwick lakes need you. Malta needs you dear rain, it does not need heatwaves during the summer.
