'Muscat's electoral battle cries deceived the country' - Ann Fenech
PN Executive Committee President says the government has not delivered on its meritocracy pledge, instead rewarding anyone who appeared on its billboards.
In a scathing attack on the government and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, PN Executive President Ann Fenech has lambasted the government's failed meritocracy pledge and "deceiving" electoral promises.
Speaking to Sunday newspaper ILLUM, Fenech accused the Labour government of making a deceptive electoral campaign.
"Joseph Muscat has deceived the electorate. He and the Labour Party based their electoral campaign on the Malta for All (Malta Tagħna Lkoll) slogan - a promise which has been totally reversed," Fenech argued.
"Rather than delivering on its battle cry for meritocracy, the government has instead treated all those who appeared on Labour's billboards to a piece of the state's coffers," the lawyer stressed.
In an exclusive interview with ILLUM, Fenech also accused the government of misleading the electorate by making intangible promises.
"Among its electoral pledges, the government promised to solve and address the issue of illegal immigration and to turn Malta into the best country in Europe. However, these promises have so far yielded no tangible results," the PN Executive Committee President said.
While conceding that Labour's campaign worked, Fenech stressed that it was not genuine, further proved by the government's "budged" promises on illegal immigration and its proposed door-to-door medicines delivery.
On the restructure within the Nationalist Party, Ann Fenech said the party is doing its utmost to address the factions within the party and its record electoral loss.
"In a relatively short time span, the Commission has done its utmost to listen to everyone who wanted to submit their opinion," she explained.
"While attracting new members who had never set foot in the party, the PN is also addressing its grassroots by attracting those people who were involved in the party 20 years ago," Fenech continued.
Moreover, despite never playing an active party in the PN and its ranks, the PN Executive Committee President insisted she was never afar from the PN and the issues surrounding it.
