New housing policy on solar panels launched
Residents in social housing blocks can install solar panels if all residents agree.
Social policy minister Marie Louise Coleiro Preca launches policy on solar panels in social housing estates.
Persons residing in social housing can now install photovoltaic panels on the rooftops under certain conditions, social policy minister and President-designate Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca said today.
Noting that the policy "safeguards everybody's rights," the minister said that the Housing Authority currently has 20 pending applications.
Addressing a press conference, Coleiro Preca, who next month will become President, explained that among others, residents interested in erecting solar panels on their rooftops need the written permission of other residents or the residents' association.
The Housing Authority will give priority to social housing blocks where the biggest number of interested families reside.
