Malta's economy requires immediate attention - PN
PN calls for serious action following troubling Eurostat results
Malta has registered a decline in retail trade during five of the past six months, according to Eurostat data.
These statistics reflect the economic situation of Maltese families, one that contradicts the government’s outlook, according to the PN.
PN representatives noted that although the decline is not drastic, Malta is one of only two EU countries that registered such a trend, while the rest of the Union experienced a 1.6% uptick in retail trade.
Such a decline, even a small one, was concerning because the European Economic Forecast named domestic consumption as the primary catalyst for economic growth, the PN said.
The PN added that this data, when combined with rising unemployment and a reduction in imports and exports, reveals a need for serious and immediate action from the government.
