Grant scheme for car scrappage a success

The scrappage scheme announced in the 2014 budget has been taken up completely, according to Transport Malta. A total of 395 vehicles benefitted from the €300,000 grant the government.

Vehicle owners who applied for the scheme were entitled to a payment of between €500 and €900 upon the purchase of a new motor vehicle in the M1 category that qualifies for the grant scheme, whilst simultaneously de-registering a vehicle in the same category.

The initiative was planned to encourage people to dispose of their old vehicles and to invest in new cars with lower emissions.
