519 persons employed in run-up to 2013 elections
During its final year in government, PN administration employed 3,800 employees, Sunday newspaper Illum reveals
In the run up to the March 2013 election, the previous Nationalist government employed a total of 519 people within the civil service, Sunday newspaper Illum reveals.
Illum reports that between January 2013 and the first week of March, at least eight persons were employed on a daily basis.
However, the Sunday newspaper reveals that the 519 employees are just a drop in the ocean as during its final year in government, the Nationalist government, employed a toal of 3,800 new employees.
Under the responsbility of then-health minister Joe Cassar, the health sector saw 569 new employees coming in. Moreover, during its final year in governemnt, the PN administration employed over 340 new workers within Mater Dei Hospital.
The Sunday newspaper also reveals that the highest number of people were employed within the education ministry, which during the year preceeding the general election, was under the responsibility of Dolores Cristina.
The education sector saw a total of 1,579 new employees coming in, the majority of whom were employed directly in the ministry and other directorates.
