Msida mayor rapped for ‘illegal’ €1,000 splash on ghana singing festival
The Department of Local Government has intervened in yet another case of alleged mismanagement, this time in the Msida local council.
According to PN organ In-Nazzjon, Msida’s Labour mayor Clifton Grima issued the sum of €1,200 without the council’s approval, to organise a football tournament and an evening of folk-singing (ghana).
The newspaper says the ghana festival cost €1,000 while another €100 were spent on the football trophy for the tournament.
A letter sent form the department of local government informed the council that decisions to issue funds without council approval were not valid. The department said the expense incurred on the trophy was illegal and had to be considered as a donation in kind, while the ghana festival was not eligible for public funds because approval was secured by telephone.
