Commercialisation of Marsascala Family Park facilities in the pipeline
Expression of interest for the commercialisation of facilities at the Marsascala Family Park to be issued in the coming days.
An expression of interest for the commercialisation of facilities at the Sant Antnin Family Park in Marsascala will be issued in the coming days, Environment Minister Leo Brincat announced in parliament this evening.
The minister assured that access to the park will remain free while full details will be announced shortly.
Addressing parliament, Brincat also referred to Malta’s awareness on marine pollution threats.
“Rather than being constrained to the ministry for the environment, an inter- ministerial maritime safety and pollution prevention committee is in place,” he said, adding Malta was well-geared against most contingencies.
Brincat said the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea, REMPEC, also had a pivotal and pro-active role to play.
Turning to plans to derive energy from waste, Brincat said it was the former administration that halted plans.
“Contrary to what has been implied by the Opposition, it was the former administration that cancelled a service tender for technical assistance in respect of the
development of a waste to energy facility literally on election eve after all bidders had been disqualified,” he said.
Brincat said the government was committed to two cost benefit analysis studies on both waste-to-energy facility as well as on the export of waste - particularly in view of the slump in prices in incinerators abroad.
On the waste management plan, Brincat said a group of stakeholders will be consulted on the implementation of this plan. This group will be convened in the coming days.
With plans for the development of a national green jobs strategy and action plan “well in hand”, Brincat said Malta was widening its outreach to countries in the Gulf such as the United Arab Erimates.
He said these countries have “proved to be genuinely committed proponents
of sustainability in this area”.
