Enemalta worker admitted to Caruana Galizia leak

Nicholas Grech admitted to leaking internal memo to Hotmail address, before contents were leaked to Caruana Galizia blog

Nicholas Grech, the man police have arrested and charged in court in connection with the mock crucifixions of animal carcasses, had admitted to superiors at Enemalta of having leaked a confidential memo to Malta Independent columnist and blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The 37-year-old engineer was accused by Enemalta superiors of having leaked an internal email informing staff about the arrival of a delegation from Shanghai Power Electric.

Grech denied the allegations when his superiors summoned him on the matter, but later admitted to sending the email to a friend when he was told that police would be called in to investigate the leak.

Grech was then said to have admitted to having sent the email to a Hotmail account – pawlupawl**@hotmail.com.

According to the internal Enemalta committee that investigated the leak, the Hotmail account was owned by Grech himself.

Caruana Galizia has denied having had the email, which she published, leaked to her by Nicholas Grech or “by anyone else who works at Enemalta.”
