Oil rig undergoing final inspection

Drilling to begin in a few weeks

The oil rig which will be drilling the Ħagar Qim well to the south of Malta is is currently undergoing the final inspection and certification tests, prior to the commencement of operations.

The well will be drilled to a minimum depth of 2,500m, as per contractual obligations between the Government of Malta and Phoenicia Energy Company Ltd and Melita Exploration Company Ltd.

According to the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure, such inspection work and any subsequent maintenance work will be completed before the rig moves to location to commence drilling, which is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
