No singular Air Malta aircraft suffering 'repeated' technical faults

The national airline says that the recent technical difficulties were recorded on three separate planes

The recent technical difficulties experienced by Air Malta affected three different aircrafts, a spokesperson for the national airline told Illum, rebutting fears that a particular plane was experiencing continuous technical fails.

In just a couple of days, the airline recorded three cases of technical difficulties on their planes, forcing cancelled or delayed flights.

“In the three cases, three separate airplanes registered technical faults which could not let the planes take off. Technicians had to be called and consequently some flights were delayed for safety reasons,” the spokesperson said.

Illum reports how the most recent case which occurred last Thursday, revolved around technical faults in the parking brake of an Airbus 319. Consequently four flights were delayed by around three hours.

The first case which dates back to 21st March, saw an Air Malta Airbus 320 returning back to Malta twice after experiencing a technical fault in the navigation system.

Air Malta’s fleet currently amounts to 10 aircraft, a mixture of Airbus 319 and 320.

According to planespotters.net, the oldest plane being used by the national airline is more than 10 years old while the newest was used for the past seven years.
