Malta High Commissioner to visit Jersey

The High Commissioner of Malta to the United Kingdom Joseph Zammit Tabona is to visit Jersey as part of an initiative to strengthen economic, political and cultural links between the two islands.

BBC news reported this morning that Zammit Tabona is to meet Jersey States officials to discuss interests such as gaming and EU issues.

He is also set to talk to a number of financial institutions while in Jersey.

In January Malta and Jersey signed a double taxation agreement to protect firms and people from being taxed twice if their income is taxable in two states.

The High Commissioner is due to spend two days in Jersey at the start of September and during his time in the island Joe Zammit Tabona and his wife - who will both be staying at Government House - will be guests at a dinner hosted by the Bailiff.

Jersey Chief Minister Senator Terry Le Sueur said: "having signed a Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) with Malta in January, Jersey is glad to welcome the High Commissioner to continue to build relations with Malta.

"Both islands will use this occasion to learn from each other and to explore the economic opportunities that may exist."
