Clean-up works at Marsalforn valley to start next week

As from next week, cleaning works will start in two other water dams in Gozo, this time at Marsalforn Valley, which leads from Rabat to Marsalforn Bay.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono together with Parliamentary Assistant in the Gozo Ministry Frederick Azzopardi, announced this today during a visit at the Żejta Valley, limits of Rabat, Gozo, which in the past few months, had been cleared of eighteen thousand tonnes of waste.

This was the first phase of the clean-up operation of the Gozo dams from natural waste as well as garbage that was thrown recklessly in the area.

At the same time, one of the two dams at the Żejta Valley was currently being repaired before the next phase of the works at the valley would start. This would involve repairs of walls and general embellishment of the zone.

Debono also announced that a tender issued by the Gozo Ministry for these works had just closed.

The implementation of this project had started earlier this year with inspections at various valleys across Gozo by Gozo Ministry and MEPA officials during which were identified locations which can be cleaned up without any environmental damage.

The clean-up operation at Żejta Valley started at the end of March with workers from Public Cleansing Section within the Department for Projects and Development at the Gozo Ministry, who cleared the valley from waste.

The rest of the clean-up operation was concluded by private contractors which had been contracted according a call for tenders issued previously.
