Sliema residents' association calls on local council to resume work

The SRA says the “prevailing negative situation” inside the Sliema council is barring it from working effectively and efficiently.

The SRA said that apart form the precarious Sliema traffic situation, air pollution dilemma and the unsustainable overdevelopment problems, Sliema residents have been airing their concerns about their living environments on various sections of the media, complaining about the inertia of the council.

“Residents’ complaints include the dirty state of pavements and roads in general, the omission of Sliema roads to be taken up for refurbishment as issued lately by Transport Malta, the unruly and uncivilised behaviour of language students within Sliema, the lack of a government-run home for the elderly and the inadequate collection of refuse featured prominently in the previous weeks. Furthermore the SRA notes that, a number of traffic accidents have been occuring in the same areas within Sliema,” secretary Joe Morana said.

The SRA insisted that the Sliema councillors own up to their responsibilities and take their duties seriously. “The SRA firmly believes that all elected council members and their respective parties need to keep in mind that the responsibilities, duties and interest of the Local Councillors should first and foremost be towards Sliema residents and their locality and not the party they represent.”
