Education ministry says Strauss school of music ‘only closed for restoration’

Ministry says building was never intended to be used for school, as music lessons now transferred to government colleges.

The Education Ministry says the Johann Strauss school for music will be closed for restoration and reparation works, as urgent structural works are needed to upgrade the buildling.

Until a new central school of music is reopened, music courses will move to other towns and villages.

“The School of Music will not close down,” the education ministry said. “New brancges wil be opened in the colleges, in discussions we held with the teachers’ union.”

Every college will, for the coming years, provide music courses, which will also give them the option to provide more specialised courses inside the future school of music.
