Government recruiting foreign nurses to alleviate shortage in public health sector
Pakistani and other foreign nationals will be alleviating the nursing shortage and are expected to be recruited by government to work in the public health sector in the coming weeks.
In a statement, the Health Ministry explained that 50 Maltese nurses who have just completed their course have applied and have been informed that they are to start work on Monday, August 23.
Out of 250 foreign applicants, 46 are Pakistani nationals, and many have been temporary registered with the Malta Council of Nurses while their qualifications are being tallied with the national requirements.
While the Health Ministry is also waiting for the Police to complete the screening process and issue working visas to those foreign nurses selected, Health Minister Joe Cassar has expressed his satisfaction that solutions are being found to counter the nursing shortage in Malta.
He augured that recruiting agencies continue to offer Malta as a work destination for nurses where they are required.
