‘€2 million’ spent on Nationalist backbenchers – report

PN backbenchers pocketed €2 million between 2008 and 2013, Sunday newspaper Illum reports.

Half of the PN parliamentary group who were not Cabinet members between 2008 and 2013 received some €2 million, according to Sunday newspaper Illum.

During the last legislature, eight Nationalist backbenchers had been appointed parliamentary assistants, each receving €127,000. These were Beppe Fenech Adami – today PN deputy leader – David Agius, Robert Arrigo, Stephen Spiteri, Franco Debono, Frederick Azzopardi, Philip Mifsud and Charlo Bonnici.

Eight other backbenchers were appointed either chairmen of parliamentary committees or public authorities, with salaries varying between €17,500 and €76,000.
