Civil Protection bring fire under control after seventh floor break-out at Fortina Hotel in Sliema
Police assisted employees of the Fortina Hotel to evacuate all residents after a fire broke out on the 7th floor at around 6.20pm this evening.
When police from the Traffic Section and the Rapid Intervention Unit arrived on the scene they started helping with the evacuation until fire-engines from the Civil Protection Department arrived.
Smoke could be seen coming out and most of the corridors were filled with smoke.
The operation has now brought the fire under control.
Sources told maltatoday that the fire started from an extractor in the restaurant and spread to the kitchen which blew all the smoke up to the sixth and seventh floor from where thick black smoke could be seen coming out.
