Lifecyclists in UK make good progress to reach Old Trafford, Manchester

After a very long and cold day, yesterday the Lifecycle cyclists arrived at their accommodation in Dunquerque.

During the evening and this morning the team had a visit from both the Ambassador for Malta in France Mark Miggiani and also the Mayor of Dunquerque, Mons Nardien.

Cyclists were exceptionally tired, cold and hungry yesterday due to the frost, rain and the route of 246km.

This morning as organized by the committee and in collaboration with Mr Henni of the French authorities, a police escort met the cyclists and back up team to escort them 20km to the port where they departed at 8am for a 2-hour trip to Dover, where they will follow signs to Dartford, just North of the Thames Estuary, 120km away from Dover.

LifeCycle is presently very successfully raising money for the renal patients of Malta. This year it is hoping to raise enough to help outpatients at the renal unit by providing permanent transport to and from the hospital as well as giving money to the Kidney Organisation to help fund cures.

This year’s route will see riders travelling over 2,000 km from Venice to Old Trafford taking on some of the toughest bike routes in Europe. The two week adventure for extreme cyclists will end at the home of Manchester United, Old Trafford.

This association has been made possible due to the official sponsor of Lifecycle, Betfair, who are the betting partner of both Manchester United and Barcelona.

It is hoped that several of the first team squad and staff of Manchester United will take part in the last few km of the race to see the riders cross the finish line.

The route will also incorporate three challenges within the main challenge, one of which is dedicated to Cliff Micallef who was tragically killed last year training for LifeCycle.
