Union says school heads’ transfers prevent long-term commitments
Malta Union of Teachers says transfers should take place within scope of audit exercises
Teachers' union MUT has complained that the results of audit exercises were not being taken into consideration when heads of state schools were being transferred from one school to the other.
"While the MUT acknowledges that the deployment of state school heads is a prerogative of the government, the union cannot understand why the results of audit exercises are not taken into consideration when decisions are being taken. In fact, heads who have been found to be effective are being transferred just the same to the detriment of the schools, community and purposes of continuity," the MUT said in a statement.
The union said it was concerned after it received complaints about lack of consultation with respective officials who were not given reasons about their deployment.
"The MUT expects that heads of school are given more feedback about the performance of their leadership. We hope that a situation is not created whereby heads cannot create a long-term development plan for their school for fear of unanticipated changes."
