Paul Borg Olivier sues for libel

PN secretary-general Paul Borg Olivier has filed two libel suits against MaltaToday editor Matthew Vella and managing editor Saviour Balzan.

Borg Olivier claimed defamation in the front-page report on MaltaToday on Sunday ‘Paul Borg Olivier campaigns in Sliema, as he expels Dimech’, and Saviour Balzan’s opinion piece ‘You simply don’t have it’.

Borg Olivier has previously campaigned on the tenth electoral district, which has Sliema as its stronghold.

MaltaToday reported that canvassers of the Nationalist heavyweight Robert Arrigo were spreading the word that Borg Olivier was favourite to receive Arrigo’s second preference votes.

In the meantime, Dimech – formerly a protégé of Arrigo – has been expelled by Borg Olivier from the PN for admitting to police of demanding a commission on a council contract.
