'Borg Olivier should resign' - MaltaToday managing editor Saviour Balzan

'Borg Olivier faces a very serious allegation. Political correctness demands that all politicians who face serious allegations should resign', Saviour Balzan said in a reaction to two libel suits filed against MaltaToday.

In a comment to MaltaToday.com.mt, Saviour Balzan Managing Editor of MediaToday said: "Paul Borg Olivier should resign at once.  The allegations made against him that he influenced a decision linked to a tender is very serious."

Borg Olivier has filed two libel suits against MaltaToday.

"His actions in the past, with PN councillor Sandra Camilleri  which are taped and filmed, and his holiday spree with Zaren Vassallo are all examples of political incorrectness. But the latest allegation is more significant.  A cursory look at what is happening around the country could explain why certain companies benefit more from government tenders and others not.

"It's not the media's fault that stories about local councils are reported. It is now a fact that local councils face far too many allegations of  corruption and financial impropriety . Councils simply serve to attract men and women who are clearly not motivated in working for their locality but in it for  personal benefit.

"As much as it is expected that individuals such as Nikki Dimech should consider resigning if they are under investigation or facing serious allegations, Paul Borg Olivier should have the decency and self-respect to do the same. I will not be too surprised if they do not. His decision to sue Mediatoday for libel will do nothing to stop this independent media house  from reporting the truth and the news. And his vexatious libels will not change my opinion that he does not have it to be secretary general of the Nationalist party. Neither will it stop this newsroom from investigating stories related to Borg Olivier's incorrect behaviour.  But let us not forget that this is a minor issue compared to other serious matters such as the Marnier letter on the Delimara extension."
