'Borg Olivier should resign' - MaltaToday managing editor Saviour Balzan

'Borg Olivier faces a very serious allegation. Political correctness demands that all politicians who face serious allegations should resign', Saviour Balzan said in a reaction to two libel suits filed against MaltaToday.

In a comment to MaltaToday.com.mt, Saviour Balzan Managing Editor of MediaToday said: "Paul Borg Olivier should resign at once.  The allegations made against him that he influenced a decision linked to a tender is very serious."

Borg Olivier has filed two libel suits against MaltaToday.

"His actions in the past, with PN councillor Sandra Camilleri  which are taped and filmed, and his holiday spree with Zaren Vassallo are all examples of political incorrectness. But the latest allegation is more significant.  A cursory look at what is happening around the country could explain why certain companies benefit more from government tenders and others not.

"It's not the media's fault that stories about local councils are reported. It is now a fact that local councils face far too many allegations of  corruption and financial impropriety . Councils simply serve to attract men and women who are clearly not motivated in working for their locality but in it for  personal benefit.

"As much as it is expected that individuals such as Nikki Dimech should consider resigning if they are under investigation or facing serious allegations, Paul Borg Olivier should have the decency and self-respect to do the same. I will not be too surprised if they do not. His decision to sue Mediatoday for libel will do nothing to stop this independent media house  from reporting the truth and the news. And his vexatious libels will not change my opinion that he does not have it to be secretary general of the Nationalist party. Neither will it stop this newsroom from investigating stories related to Borg Olivier's incorrect behaviour.  But let us not forget that this is a minor issue compared to other serious matters such as the Marnier letter on the Delimara extension."

The latest: PBO threatens Cuschieri - a Sliema councillor with expulsion if he did not sign a motion. After he did the same with Sandra another Sliema councillor.  What a mess!

Whether PBS is innocent or guilty is not the point.  If a politician faces serious allegations he should suspend himself or just step down.  He faces the accusation of having influenced Nikki Dimech into choosing the GRTU's company Green MT over Greenpak.   Is it true or false? Who knows? But the accusation was made by Dimech, a Mayor chosen by PN voters and selected by the Prime Minister himself.

If that is not  enough to merit a resignation, well what is?  The great pity is that if PBO abandons his post it will be taken up by someone like Pierre Portelli who has been dying for this post for ages.  And Gonzi will be a very happy man.  Watch out for more on this site!

Silvio Falzon my comment was meant to be taken with a pinch of salt! I was being sarcastic because, although I agree with Saviour that PBO should resign, I think it is as likely to happen as having Lowell campaigning in favour of immigrant rights. Get it or is sarcasm so difficult to grasp?

Together with PBO's resignation you are also expecting Norman Lowell to campaign in favour of immigrant rights and father Anton Gouder to argue in favour of divorce. Dream on Saviour!

Tales from medieval Malta. The only country that has:- 1. SMART CITY - RINELLA where technology and electricity are waiting for an introduction. 2. GRAFT CITY - SLIEMA where contracts and fraud allegations are shared between friends. 3. SILENT CITY - MDINA where attempted murders are always solved with Presidential Pardons as Silence is Golden. 4. DUMP CITY - PACEVILLE where trash reigns supreme 5.GENTLEMEN CITY - VALLETTA where open air theatres are the new fad and a new parliament will welcome old politics 6. THREE CITIES - COSPICUA - VITTORIOSA - SENGLEA where the bastions of skilled and organised labour were dismantled. 7. POWER STATION CITY - DELIMARA where a 200 million euros contract is awarded to create tons of toxic waste. It's quite a feat for a State of the European Union. Your assets have all been sold off. You have accumulated a mountain of debt and most of your politicians have become millionaires by kEeping their noses inside this trough. HELLO MALTA ! IS ANYBODY HOME ?

Saviour, what about the content of the email mistakenly sent to Jason Micallef? In that email PBO was requesting Goverment data for Party use. Should'nt that been enough for resignation?

PBO +GONZI vs DIMECH+S.CAMILLERI . Whatever the outcome of this farcical drama or dramatic farce ,the inhabitants of Sliema will always emerge the losers, and this all their fault, they endorsed this PN led council when they once again voted them in.This could be the begining of the end for the now corruption ridled administration GonziPN.I think we should be refering this as the SLIEMAGATE . ......Quo Vadis sincerity ,goodbye honesty and welcome corruption ...this could be the slogan for poor Malta future under PBO/GonziPN.
