Catholic education secretariat outlines student exemption procedure
Secretariat also reminds parents of the importance of regular attendance
The Secretariat for Catholic Education has released a statement reminding parents that children are required to regularly attend the Church school they are enrolled in.
The Secretariat also informed parents that they could apply for a yearlong exemption from school for their children if they need to accompany them overseas for work, health or study reasons.
To apply for this exemption, parents must write to the Admission Board to inform it of the length of their absence and also produce the relevant documentation.
Parents can also apply for an extension to this period by writing for the Board and giving the necessary details. The Board will decide on a case-by-case basis and maintains that its decisions are final. Children not returning to school within the stipulated time will lose their place at that school.
This exemption cannot be sought for St Angela Kindergartens.
