Signage campaign to ease Salina Coast Road congestion
Project expected to be completed by mid-2015
The €53 million project to widen the Coast Road and introduce safety features has picked up in pace and Transport Malta is taking steps to help ease congestion in the 7.3km stretch.
In a press statement, Transport Malta has appealed to motorists to note the newly posted yellow signs at major junctions - including Raħal il-Ġdid, Żebbuġ and Għadira - warning of possible delays and indicating alternate routes.
"Motorists who choose to commute through the Salina Coast Road are also reminded of the reduced speed limit at 40km/hr. The new speed limit is meant to maintain a steady traffic flow while enhancing safety along the work zones," read the statement.
The road, once finished, will also incorporate bicycle lanes, carriage-way division crash barriers and other safety features. Co-funded through the European’s Union’s Cohesion Fund, the project is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2015.
