Casa elected EPP leader in employment committee

Nationalist MEP David Casa to lead EPP delegation on Employment and Social Affairs committee

The head of the PN delegation in the European Parliament David Casa has been elected the European People’s Party leader on the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.

Casa will chair EPP meetings in which Reports and Opinions are discussed and in which the Political Group's position is established.

"I am honoured that my colleagues saw it fit to elect me to this role. I am ready to address the challenges ahead with all my energy," the MEP said.

Elections for the posts known as EPP Coordinators and Vice Coordinators took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg yesterday evening.

The role involves leading a team of advisors and organising the EPP's work in the Committee. Casa will act as the chief negotiator for the EPP on employment and social affairs and has absolute discretion over the appointment of MEPs as rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs.

When the results of the vote were known David Casa thanked his opponent, German senior MEP Thomas Mann, for a fair campaign. Casa won the vote with 19 votes in favour of his candidacy against 8 for his opponent.

Casa said "there is a great deal of important work to be done in this Committee. When we consider the worrying unemployment levels that continue to plague many European countries and the social consequences of the crisis the work of our committee must be deemed all the more urgent.”
