Local Council to take over St Luke's hospital car park

A three-year agreement will see fees reintroduced for the disused car park.

The Pietà local council will be taking over the abandoned car park of Malta's former national hospital, St Luke's, as part of a three-year agreement between government and the council.

The announcement was made by the Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Simplification Michael Falzon at a press conference held this morning in the car park itself.

The area, which holds 260 vehicles, has not been properly used since St Luke's ceased being the national hospital in 2008, with persons being able to make use of it at no cost throughout that period.

Speaking at the event, Pietà mayor Keith Tanti said that whilst 50 spaces will be reserved for residents, the rest of the car park will now be at a cost, revenue the Council will be re-investing in the locality
