A round-up of the newspaper headlines on Sunday morning.
Malta Today – A survey carried out by this newspaper shows that 85% of persons do not believe that first-time drug offenders should be taken to court. Meanwhile, 84% of respondents ‘know someone who smokes cannabis’.
The newspaper also leads with the news that 19 migrants perished in the latest boat tragedy 80 miles off the coast of Lampedusa.
Sister newspaper Illum – Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s decision to postpone all local council elections is being seen by many as an attempt to delay a referendum on spring hunting.
The Sunday Times – Medication for depression or anxiety was the result of around half the number of intentional overdoses since the beginning of the year.
The Malta Independent on Sunday – Maltese nationals in Libya want to be evacuated as the situation in Libya escalates.
It-Torca – Government will not hand over the assets which former Libya leader, Muammar Gaddafi, had in Malta to Libyan authorities and insisted that they should go to court to resolve the dispute.
Il-Mument – Joseph Muscat’s decision to postpone the local council elections is not popular amongst a number of MPs, including some members of his own cabinet.
Kullhadd – The Nationalists’ proposal for state funding towards political parties is called into question, after the same party refused to introduce the same law for the many legislatures it was in power.
