PN challenges justice minister to table Farrugia Sacco impeachment motion
Opposition calls on justice minister Owen Bonnici to present impeachment motion before Parliament’s summer recess
Justice minister Owen Bonnici was today challenged by the Nationalist Party to proceed with the impeachment motion against judge Lino Farrugia Sacco, after the minister said that he hoped a decision is taken before the judge retires on 22 August.
“If the minister wants to be taken seriously, he should proceed with the impeachment motion immediately in Parliament. The PN is prepared to delay the summer recess to allow Parliament to debate the impeachment motion before the judge retires in August.”
Parliament is set to hold its last sitting before the summer recess this Friday. Moreover, the opposition urged Bonnici to enact reforms in the selection process of judiciary members, as proposed by the Justice Reform Commission.
