New plans for Cittadella launched

Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo and Parliamentary Secretary for EU funds Ian Borg presented new plans for the entrance of Cittadella. These include the preservation of the original passage to the city’s doors that were discovered during works near the old doors of Cittadella.

The intensive works that are being carried out on this site are part of a project co-financed by the European Union for the implementation of recommendations of the Cittadella Masterplan.

This includes works on the reservoirs, the installation of underground services, the paving of roads, the cleaning of ruins, and the restoration of facades on the San Guzepp chapel, the Isqof Cagliares palace and the folkore museum.

Refalo said that he is “satisfied that we are seeing the completion of restoration works on the lower parts of the cathedral’s facade that bring back their original appearance. For years, it was simply given a coating of cement that didn’t only harm its appearance but also damaged the stone.”  

The new plans for Cittadella will be exhibited in the Ministry for Gozo and in the UNESCO office in Zewkija.
