Rescue operation in Xwejni, Gozo

The strong winds which hit the Maltese Islands this afternoon caused rough seas and huge waves, in particular in Gozo.

At around 5:20pm, despite the rough seas, the young girl went swimming in Xwejni, limits of Marsalforn, in Gozo, and found herself in difficulties.

People on site called for help and within minutes Civil Protection personnel and police were on the spot.

An AFM helicopter was despatched and a rescuer was winched down to rescue the German girl. She was taken to Gozo General Hospital where she was given medical treatment. So far her condition is not yet known.
