Detention Services head denies MP’s tweet claiming he has resigned
Head of detention services Mario Schembri denies suggestion that he tendered his resignation.

The head of Malta’s Detention Services Unit, Lt. Col. Mario Schembri (Rtd) has denied having tendered his resignation.
A tweet by shadow home affairs minister Jason Azzopardi, claiming Schembri could have had resigned his position, set the press in motion to enquire with the home affairs ministry on alleged resignation.
Schembri was said to have resigned “due to excessive influence from the Malta Security Services” according to Azzopardi.
Is it true that Head of Detention Services Mario Schembri has tendered resignation due to incessant interference by SS?

But in comments to MaltaToday, Schembri denied having resigned. “I’m at my office desk as we speak. Even the minister called to enquire whether I had resigned. I haven’t.”
