Full-time employment up by 3.6% in March

Registered full-time employment in the private sector went up by 3.2%, while that within the public sector increased by 4.5%.

In March, registered full-time employment increased by 3.6% when compared to the corresponding month in 2013, while registered part-time employment as a primary job rose by 6.3%.

Administrative data provided by the ETC show that over a period of one year, the labour supply (excluding part-timers) increased by 3.6%, reaching 168,482.

This was mainly attributed to increases in the full-time gainfully occupied population (+5,549) and in registered unemployment (+294).

In the month under review, the Public Administration and Defence, Complusory Social Security and the Administrative and Support Services Activities sectors contributed mostly to the increase in employment.

These increases were partly offset by drops in employment registered mainly in the Construction sector.

Registered full-time employment in the private sector went up by 3.2%, while that within the public sector increased by 4.5%.

The number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 433 when compared to March last year, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 5,116.

Male and female full-time employment went up by 2.5% and 5.6% respectively over 2013 levels.

Registered part-time employment for March went up by 5.7% when compared to last year. The sectors that contributed mostly to the total increase in part-time employment were Accommodation and Food Service activities followed by Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles (+552 persons).

In March, the number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 24,298, up by 4.8% when compared to the corresponding month last year. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 33,559, up by 6.3%, or 1,979 persons, when compared to 2013 levels.
