Health department investigating helipad obstruction incident

A medical team was prepared to assist the patient but could not reach the helipad thanks to a rental vehicle that was parked in front of the gate

A badly parked car delayed a patient's transfer from Gozo General Hospital on Saturday, when it blocked access to the helipad at St Luke's Hospital.

A medical team was prepared and waiting but could not reach the helipad thanks to the rental vehicle that was parked in front of the gate. The patient was successfully transferred two hours later, by which time the car had been removed.

In a press statement, the Department of Health announced that it had already begun investigations into the incident and serious disciplinary action would be taken, including suspension from the work place, against those involved.

The department also said that precautions would be taken so that such an incident would not happen again.
