Gozitan village Munxar gets first full standards playground

The Gozitan village of Munxar inaugurates the first ever Maltese playground in full conformity with MSA guidelines.

The Munxar local council was the beneficiary of a government scheme to realize the first playground in full conformity with standards from the Malta Standards Authority.

Costing €219,000, the playground makes use of alternative energy and also offers free Wi-Fi. Various inspections by MSA officials were carried out.

The playground includes a multi-purpose room, a 22,000 gallon water reservoir, and new lavatories. Solar panels will be installed for the generation of electricity. The playground furniture includes gym installments and a playhouse.

The parliamentary secretariat for local councils said it was helping 15 other councils financially to upgrade their facilities. Of these, seven are Gozitan localities.

Another €615,000 is to be invested in alternative energy incentives, while last April €900,000 were voted for 17 local councils from the MERA urban development fund.
