Malta suffers largest drop in retail sales in the EU -PN
Maltese retailers "suffering the consequences of the government's lack of economic vision"

The reduction in disposable income amongst the Maltese is responsible for Malta reporting the most pronounced decline in retail sales in the EU, according to a statement released today by the PN.
...this is not an isolated problem, but an increasingly structural one Nationalist Party statement
The statement reports a 2.5% decline in sales during the month of July, when compared to the same month last year and notes "recent negative indicators, including a decline in industrial production, importation and exportation as well as in investment."
It goes on to state that this is the fourth reported decrease in the last six months which, in conjunction with a decline in imports, "indicates that this is not an isolated problem, but an increasingly structural one".
Noting that EU retailers have experienced, on average, positive growth, the PN concluded that this is not the result of "some dire international situation" and asked that the 2015 Budget contain the necessary tangible initiatives to revive the national economy and leave more money in people's pockets.
