Enemalta has announced that it will be carrying out tests on the emergency alarms at the Delimara power station and the fuel installations at Ras Ħanżir, Ħas Saptan and Birżebbuġa on Tuesday 9th September
In a statement, Enemalta said that these tests will be carried out at 9:00am while the siren at the Birzebbugia fuel station will be tested give minutes later.
“These tests, which include the sounding of sirens for a few seconds, are carried out every year as part of the company’s plans and procedures in readiness for emergency situations at these sites.”
“The sounding of the emergency alarms is one of the safety measures used to alert these communities in such situations,” it said.
Enemalta keeps detailed plans to tackle emergencies that may take place at its sites. Individuals who live or work close to these locations are provided with information on how to ensure their safety in case of major accidents.
Several exercises are carried out throughout the year to assess and update these emergency plans. These operations are carried out in adherence to national and European health and safety legislation, including the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations.
