Vella awarded ‘best portfolio ever assigned to Malta’ – Labour

The Labour Party has welcomed the announcement that Commissioner-designate Karmenu Vella was awarded the environment, fisheries and maritime affairs portfolio.

Vella is a former tourism minister and current Labour member of parliament. Vella must now prepare for the grilling by the members of the European Parliament.

Wishing him success for the post, Labour said the assigned portfolio represents the “full trust” of the President-elect that Vella is up for the job.

“This is the best portfolio ever awarded to a Maltese commissioner,” it said. “Vella is an experienced politician and we know that the trust he enjoys in Europe will serve his post well.”
