Update 2 | Prime Minister's father passes away

Louis - known as 'Gigi' - died early this morning at Mater Dei Hospital where he was recovered for the past few days.

In a statement, the PN expressed its condolences to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and his brother, Nationalist MP Michael Gonzi.

It paid tribute to Mr and the late Mrs Gonzi (who passed away two years ago) for their exemplary life and for the way they had, quietly and with dedication, raised a family, with two of their sons serving their country as Prime Minister and as an MP.

The Labour Party also expressed its condolences and said that party leader Joseph Muscat had been in contact with the prime minister to express his sorrow.

The Managing Director, Managing Editor, and staff at MaltaToday express their condolences to the Prime Minister and his family.

Condolences were also expressed by the General Workers Union and the Union Haddiema Maqghudin.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 10am at Our Lady of Mount Cramel Sanctuary, in Valletta.
