Fifth fireworks victim succumbs to burns

The fifth victim in the tragic Gharb fireworks explosion, Raymond Farrugia, 35, is reported to have succumbed to his wounds. He was the son of factory owner Ninu Farrugia, and brother to Noel Farrugia, both of them dying instantly in the blast.
27 year-old Antoinette, who was married to Noel Farrugia, 31, also died on the spot.
The victims so far are Ninu Farrugia, 67, owner of the Fontana Brothers factory who perished with his son Noel, and Jean-Pierre Azzopardi, 27 from Xewkija.
The last casualty is Paul Micallef, 32 - who is Raymond Farrugia's brother-in-law. They were brought separately to Malta by the AFM Air Wing’s helicopter, to be further treated for serious injuries. Micallef is certified to be critical and in imminent danger of dying. Farrugia and Micallef werereported to have sustained first degree burns to 90 per cent of their bodies.
