Prince William’s visit: official programme is out
The Duke of Cambridge will be landing in Malta on Saturday afternoon and shuttled straight to San Anton Palace to meet the President of the Republic
Nothing has changed in the itinerary for the Royal Guest who will be joining in as Malta celebrates its 50th anniversary of Independence Day.
Prince William stepped in to replace the Duchess of Cambridge who has had to cancel her first solo trip abroad due to severe morning sickness as a result of her second pregnancy.
Prince William will be landing in Malta tomorrow in the afternoon where he will shuttled straight to San Anton Palace – where he will be staying – to meet President of the Republic Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.
He will also take part in a tree-planting event at the Palace’s gardens.
Prince William, before inspecting the In Guardia at St George’s Square in Valletta, will call on the Prime Minister and his wife at Auberge de Castille.
At the National Library, he will view important documents marking Malta’s history such as letters from King Henry VIII and George II and the original citation awarding the George Cross to the island.
In the evening, he will attend a reception at the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta where he will unveil a plaque. The Grand Harbour Spectacle includes an aeronautical display and fireworks display. The Duke of Cambridge will then be making a speech.
The busy schedule continues on Sunday morning with the Independence Day Service at the St John’s Co-Cathedral followed by viewing of paintings by Caravaggio.
Prince William will then descend in Vittoriosa where he will be visiting the Access Centre, a centre that offers social services within the community. He will be treated to a folklore presentation at the Vittoriosa Square, where the general public will be able to catch a glimpse of the second in line to the British throne.
Following a visit to St Lawrence Church, Prince William will be given a boat tour of the Grand Harbour followed by a garden party at the High Commissioner’s residence, bringing to an end his 24-hour visit to the island.
