President to meet Pope Francis in Rome

President of the Republic Marie Louise Coleiro Preca has left Malta to attend to her first official meeting with Pope Francis.

Coleiro Preca, together with husband Edgar, left the island this afternoon. The two will be meeting Pope Francis at the Vatican.

Back in April, the President came under fire for not having attended the canonisation of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II. At the time, the President had to attend to high level talks on migration.
