Foreign Affairs ministry special envoy for Libya Joe Mangion present for talks in Gadames
Ambassador Joe Mangion, the Minister for Foreign Affairs’ Special Envoy for Libya, is representing the Government of Malta at the Gadames talks on Libya, starting today.
Mangion has served in Malta’s missions in the Arab world and in particular Libya, for a number of years and is presently engaged as advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
These talks are being held under the aegis of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and on the initiative of the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Representative, Bernardino Leon.
The Maltese government yesterday welcomed the initiation of talks between the different factions.
“The opportunity that has presented itself must now be sustained by all the international community,” Vella said, calling on all Libyans and their political leaders to show maturity and leadership so that the people and country will start their recovery to progress and development.
“Malta believes that political transition can only be achieved through compromise and understanding.”
The Maltese government reiterated its support to the Libyan people and pledged to continue to be engaged over the Libyan crisis.
