VIDEO | Shocking amateur film of cruise ship hit by storm off New Zealand

Video footage has emerged of passengers and furniture being thrown across the floor of a cruise liner as the ship was battered by stormy seas.

The P&O Pacific Sun hit rough waters 400 miles off the coast of New Zealand.

As the ship rocked violently to and fro, guests and staff tried to grab anything that was nailed down.

Receptionists clung to their desks and computers, as waves washed in as high as the fifth deck.

But some passengers were unable to hold on and they were flung to the floor, while tables and chairs hurtled towards them.

In a scene that could be straight out of a Hollywood disaster movie, the CCTV images show people repeatedly thrown from one side of the deck to the other.

Several people slam into poles and others are pummelled by the sliding furniture.

P&O offered passengers a 20% discount on their next cruise.
